چکیده

In the present work, the non-spherical grain characteristics of comet Halley are analysed using the T-matrix method at λ= 0.365,0.485 and 0.684μm respectively. In order to analyse the polarisation data of comet Halley, the dust size distribution function derived by Das et al. (2004) for comet Halley is used in the present work. The size range of the grains is taken to be 0.01μm≤ s ≤ 3μm. Using the T-matrix method, the best fit values of complex refractive indices (n,k) and aspect ratio (E) are determined at three different wavelengths 0.365,0.485 and 0.684μm and the corresponding values are given by (1.380, 0.043, 0.962), (1.378, 0.049, 0.962) and (1.377, 0.058, 0.962) respectively. After comparing the above result with Mie theory result, it is found that prolate grains give the best fit to the observed polarisation data of comet Halley. Also the negative polarisation behaviour of comet Halley is discussed thereafter.

Charge-Coupled Device Photometry of Comet P/Halley

Comet P/Halley has been observed during its approach to perihelion at heliocentric distances R = I 1.0 AU and R = 8.2 AU. No extended coma is seen and limits can be placed on the fraction of the total light contributed by coma. The brightness of the comet varies on a short time scale. The variations may be due to transient activity or to rotation of the irregular nucleus. ,. 1984 Academic Pre',...

The Distributed Co in Comet Halley

Examination of the spatial distribution of CO intensity of Comet Halley indicates that a large fraction of CO originates from the refractory organic component in the coma, rather than directly from the volatiles in the nucleus. Based on the fluffy aggregate interstellar dust comet model, we have estimated the upper limits of the total amount of CO provided by coma dust. The implications from th...

Resonant Behavior of Comet Halley and the Orionid Stream

Comet 1P/Halley has the unique distinction of having a very comprehensive set of observational records for almost every perihelion passage from 240 B.C. This has helped to constrain theoretical models pertaining to its orbital evolution. Many previous works have shown the active role of mean motion resonances in the evolution of various meteoroid streams. Here we look at how various resonances,...

A polarization study of comet Hyakutake ( C / 1996 B 2 )

Observations for the linear polarization of comet Hyakutake (C/1996B2) are carriedout at three continuumwavebands: 3650Å, 4845Å and 6840Å. These observations were taken on March 13 and March 18, 1996 when the phase angles were 38.1 and 36.9, respectively. These results indicate an increase in the degree of polarizationwith phase angle andwavelength, in general. Present results show that comet H...

The Physical Properties of Halley Comet Tail using Mid-point Leapfrog Explicit Method

S. Z. Khalaf, A. A. Selman and E. E. Abd_Al lattef Abstract— The physical properties of the interaction region between the solar wind and Halley comet have been taken a considerable atten-tion in this work. The cometary ion tail that formed and shaped by the existence of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) is also depends on the comet type. This interaction can be described by plasma and ma...
